Question:
Assalamualaikum ustaz. I would like to ask. Women during prostration in prayer, is it a must for their palms to touch the prayer mat directly? It is because I see many women when they go down to prostrate, they will lift their telekung a bit so that the telekung will not prevent her from touching the prayer mat directly. However, I read in a magazine; it states that only the forehead is needed to directly touch the prayer mat. Hope for an explanation from ustaz.
Answer:
Alhamdulillah, praise and thanks to Allah for the countless blessings He has blessed us all with. Blessings and salutations to the Prophet Muhammad PBUH, his wives, his family, companions and all those that follow his teachings to the day of judgement.
It is not wajib to have direct contact between palms and the prayer mat or prostration area. However, there are some scholars who obligate the palms to be uncovered. Hence, the final opinion is it is Sunnah to not cover the palms to escape the khilaf.
