IFRReplacingFasts.jpg

Question:

Assalamu‘alaikum SS Datuk Mufti. Is it permissible to replace a fast for a deceased non-family member?

Answer:

Waalaikumussalam wbt,

Alhamdulillah, praise and thanks to Allah for the countless blessings He has blessed us all with. Blessings and salutations to the Prophet Muhammad PBUH, his family, companions and all those that follow his teachings to the day of judgement.

The fast is permissible and valid on the condition that he has the permission of a family member of the deceased. Consequently, if the family members do not give their permission or it is not stated in the deceased will, then the replacement of fast is invalid.
