Question:
I would like to ask regarding a case where the wife was having an affair with someone else’s husband. His own husband found an inappropriate picture of his wife with the man which is sent through WhatsApp. The wife begged his husband to forgive her and said that she has already repented. The husband was heartbroken and disappointed. However, since the wife never neglected their children and his husband, the husband forgave her and accepted her back. However, sometimes; he will still be reminded of the incident. Is the husband considered dayus if he accepts his wife back? Hope for an explanation from you. Thank you.
Answer:
Alhamdulillah, praise and thanks to Allah for the countless blessings He has blessed us all with. Blessings and salutations to the Prophet Muhammad PBUH, his wives, his family, companions and all those that follow his teachings to the day of judgement.
In our opinion, if a person has repented with true repentance and would like to form a strong marriage, then forgiveness from the husband is needed to ensure a better life and happiness to be restored. However, I would like to suggest several matters:
- It is advised that she should repent with true repentance and completely break any ties which could lead to any transgressions.
- She should make a change in her life by determining the reason why those dark moments took place before. Hence, hijrah (move/change) from the old-style or workplace, and maybe a new environment with full determination and willpower are essential in this.
- Perform acts of worship in congregation like congregational prayer and others.
- It is advised to attend religious lectures daily or at least weekly, so that our heart may be filled with guidance and Rabbani light.
- It is advised to always do muhasabah (self-reflection) from time to time to be a better person without bringing up any past dark moments.
- Be forgiving towards each other and set willpower for both to be a good husband and wife in life.
Lastly, remember. Every marriage has its own tribulations. Try to recall the faces of your children who are in need of support and care from both parents. Verily, this life is temporary and passes by quickly. Hence, try to strive for the hereafter, so that we may be happy there.
